Gunter, Special Assistant to the Chief, Air Force Reserve for Reserve Space Personnel Policy and Integration at Headquarters U.S. Air Force, the Pentagon, Arlington, Va., presided over Senior Master Sgt. (ret.) Lisa M. Baldelli's retirement ceremony at Keesler Air Force Base Aug. 5, 2023. Baldelli served for 36 years, 29 of those with the Air Force Reserve's 403rd Wing, where she held several roles in the services career field. She also deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom and humanitarian efforts in Panama. At the time of her retirement she led the 403rd Force Support Squadron's Sustainment Services Flight. The U.S. Air Force Reserve’s 53rd Weather Reconnaissance Squadron released an Airborne Expendable BathyThermographs into the Gulf of Mexico Aug. 2, 2023. An AXBT is expendable instrument that measures the profile of temperature in the water column. The 53rd WRS has been working with the U.S. Naval Academy and Woods Hole Oceanography Institute as part of the Training and Research in Oceanic and Atmospheric Processes in Tropical Cyclones, or TROPIC program to study the ocean and how it reacts with tropical weather systems. The U.S. Air Force Reserve’s 53rd Weather Reconnaissance Squadron released an Air Launched Autonomous Micro Observer (ALAMO) profiling ocean float into the Gulf of Mexico Aug. 2, 2023. The floats measure upper ocean temperature and salinity. The LCLA airdrop is accomplished by dropping bundles weighing 80-500 pounds with pre-packed expendable parachutes. This is routine training for the aircrews that support contingency operations.
