If the COVID-19 Pandemic has proven anything, it is that flexibility is indeed the key to airpower.

Nobody knows that more than the 403rd Wing’s new senior recruiter, Senior Master Sgt. Mark C. Shearin, and his flight of Air Force Reserve recruiters who, traditionally, do what they do best by meeting potential recruits in person.

The Air Force Recruiting Service launched the “Aim High” app June 15th, which was integrated into Air Force Reserve recruiters’ “toolbox.” This allows potential recruits to embed tools on their phone to utilize Total Force career resources to learn about many possibilities.

“When you open up the Aim High app, you can see videos of boot camp, different Air Force jobs, and other information,” said Shearin. “It’s a great tool for anyone interested in learning about opportunities to soar as an Airman.”

In addition to those aforementioned tools, the app connects the user to recruiters in their area which is important considering events like job fairs and school visits, where people normally go to look for opportunities, are currently out of the question.

The roll out of the “Aim High” app was accelerated by the COVID-19 social distancing guidelines which changed the dynamics of recruiting. The 403rd Wing recruiters were already embracing digital tools when the “Aim High” app was launched.

Master Sgt. Sara B. House, wing recruiter, said they were able to quickly shift toward virtual meetings, websites and apps.

“We continued to effectively recruit new Airmen with new technology,” said House, who added that safety remains a priority for 403rd Wing recruiters.

“We want to keep everybody safe, so we don’t do face-to-face recruiting appointments. I now meet recruiting applicants though virtual meetings,” said House. “It’s safer, so it makes sense.”

Making sense of all the changes with social distancing and virtual meetings, adds more professional seasoning for both House and Shearin in their jobs as Air Force Reserve recruiters.

The Aim High app is available for download on IOS or Android smartphones. To learn more about opportunities to join the 403rd Wing, go to: https://www.403wg.afrc.af.mil/About/Recruiting/
