AFRC celebrates 100 years of air reserve power with C-130 special missions demo

Oriana Pawlyk, Air Force Times journalist, discusses the function of a dropsonde on camera inside a 53d Weather Reconnaissance Squadron “Hurricane Hunters” C-130 Hercules during a flight off the east coast of the United States June 28, 2016. A dropsonde is used by Hurricane Hunters to collect temperature, humidity, wind speed and direction of weather systems. The information is then sent to the National Hurricane Center in Miami which monitors tropical storms. As part of the 100th anniversary of air power in the U.S. military, members of the media were invited to fly with the Hurricane Hunters and learn about their weather surveillance mission.
