Lt. Col. Brian Schroeder, 53rd Weather Reconnaissance Squadron aerial reconnaissance weather officer, collects data on Hurricane Odile Sept. 14, 2014. Schroeder is one of 20 ARWOs in the Air Force, all assigned to the 53rd WRS at Keesler Air Force Base, Mississippi. The ARWO operates the computerized weather reconnaissance equipment and acts as flight director in the storm environment. They use the equipment to determine the storm's center and analyze atmospheric conditions such as pressure, temperature, dew point and wind speed.
