KEESLER AIR FORCE BASE, MISS -- If you saw a circular object around the sun in the afternoon sky, it was not a UFO, but a sundog. Many Citizen Airmen across the base took the time to appreciate this weather phenomenon that require special atmospheric conditions to occur. Sundogs are caused by refracted light through the prism of high level clouds made up of tiny ice crystals. The sun has to be at the right angle for the refraction to occur.
