Famed Admiral Visits 403rd Wing

KEESLER AIR FORCE BASE, Miss. -- Rear Adm (Ret). J. Lloyd Abbot Jr., (Left) stands with Brig. Gen. James Muscatell Jr.,(right) commander of the 403rd Wing during a recent visit. Admiral Abbot toured the Lockeed Martin C-130J simulator and toured one of the 403rd Wing's 18 J-model aircraft. Admiral Abbot served from 1943 to 1974. Abbot was the Commanding Officer, U.S. Naval Support Force, Antarctica, February 1967 to June 1969 and has an ice shelf named in his honor.The Abbot ice shelf is 250 mile long and 40 mi wide and borders Eights Coast from Cape Waite to Phrogner Point.
