The 403rd Wing Human Resource Development Council here hosted their 6th annual family day event near the base marina May 14.

Now called the Wing Spring Fling, the event began in 2010 to give a chance for leadership, wing members and their families and friends to interact together outside the workplace in order to build camaraderie, said Tech. Sgt. Karen Moore, 53rd Weather Reconnaissance Squadron loadmaster.

This year’s event included performances by the 403rd Wing members. Maj. Elvis Ta provided music as the disc jockey, Master Sgt. Mark Chachati played a guitar solo and Senior Airman Kelly Andino performed multiple song selections on her violin.

Airmen and their families participated in many activities such as a rock wall, Corn Hole, face painting, pie-in-the-face fundraiser, bench press competition, inflatable jousting, bounce houses and a bungee run.

Even though planning has not started for next year’s family day event, Staff Sgt. Earnest Scruggs, a maintainer with the 403 Maintenance Squadron says he hopes it will be even better.

“Every year we see what people really enjoyed and what people didn't really care for, so we can adjust for the next one,” said Scruggs.

In addition to hosting events on base to boost the morale of Airmen and their families, the wing HRDC also provides leadership opportunities for service members and seeks to provide a positive impact on the local community through outreach and events like the Wing Spring Fling.
