Airmen support air mobility exercise Green Flag Published July 2, 2015 By Senior Airman Shelton Sherrill 403rd Wing Public Affairs KEESLER AIR FORCE BASE, Miss. -- The 403rd Operational Support Squadron had two members participate in the Green Flag 15-07 air mobility exercise at Little Rock Air Force Base, Arkansas, in May. Maj. William Miller, chief of tactics, and Senior Airman Kelley Andino, intelligence analyst, honed their job skills during the exercise where members of the U.S. Air Force interacted with members from across the U.S. Department of Defense and several international partners to include the Columbian and Australian Air Forces. Miller, a C-130J instructor pilot, and Andino took part in the exercise that emphasized coordination between intelligence, tactics and operations planning and aircrew, preparing joint and coalition warfighters to meet combatant commander requirements, said Miller. Miller and Andino, both reservists, worked with active component, Guard and Reserve Airmen from various bases as well as coalition partners to provide aerial support over 3,400 Army troops during the large-scale exercise. Orchestrated by the 34th Combat Tactical Squadron at Little Rock AFB, the tactical-level joint forces exercise simulated combat situations the Air Force might encounter in support of Army movements. "This includes every aspect of the first six days of a war from planning and logistics of airdrops to setting up a temporary base," said Miller. "We also got to exercise our tactics, techniques and procedures that we wouldn't use during normal local training." The exercise was a unique learning experience, said Miller. Overcoming obstacles such as working with different cultures, language barriers, and consolidating assets from multiple countries gave exercise participants the ability to practice integration, he said. "There is no practical way to do this in a local training environment," Miller said. Andino worked with a team of Airmen from Dyess, McGuire and Little Rock Air Force Bases and the Royal Australian Air Force. "Watching the manner in which all sections came together to ensure the safety of all the crew members and the success of the mission was uplifting," she said. "My biggest satisfaction comes from knowing that every member of every team pushed themselves to make Green Flag Little Rock 15-07 a thorough success." The 34th Combat Training Squadron conducts approximately six to 10 Green Flag Little Rock AFB exercises a year to train on advanced combat airlift tactics and techniques with joint and coalition partners. The 403rd OSS supported two Green Flag exercises this year and plans to participate in more in the future, said Miller.
