Colonel Adam Hohman is the Commander of the 403rd Aeromedical Staging Squadron, Air Force Reserve Command, Keesler Air Force Base, Miss. He commands the only Reserve medical unit in Mississippi, serving a wing of 1,600 reservists. As Commander, he is responsible for the training programs that ensure wartime readiness and combat capability of the ASTS as well as providing medical programs that support the 403rd Wing and its mission to train, equip and employ airlift forces in global support of the nation's interests. This includes tactical air-land and airdrop of personnel, supplies and equipment, aeromedical evacuation and agile combat support. In addition, the wing performs the only aerial weather reconnaissance mission in the Department of Defense.
The colonel was commissioned through the Air Force Health Scholarship Program upon graduation from North Dakota State University in Fargo North Dakota in 2000. He began his Air Force Reserve career as a flight nurse at the 934th Aeromedical Evacuation Squadron, Minneapolis St. Paul Air Reserve Station, Minn. During his time there, he deployed to Balad Air Force Base, Iraq twice and to Ramstein Air Force Base, Germany to support aeromedical evacuation operations during the Global War on Terrorism. During the COVID pandemic in 2020, he served as the 934th Airlift Wing’s Public Health Emergency Officer and was mobilized to New York City in support of Operation Gotham.
He has served in a variety of nursing and leadership positions to include critical care transport team nurse and family nurse practitioner. Prior to this assignment, he served as the 934th Aeromedical Staging Squadron director of operations at Minneapolis St. Paul ARS, Minn. In his civilian capacity, Colonel Hohman is a family nurse practitioner serving as a medical examiner for Optum Serve performing Veteran Administration disability exams and practices in emergency departments at various facilities.
