Chief Master Sergeant Barbara J. Gilmore is the Command Chief, 403rd Wing, Keesler Air Force Base, Miss. Chief Gilmore leads the enlisted force and advises commanders on matters impacting the enlisted force, such as proper utilization, readiness, professional development, training, and quality of life issues. She ensures the commander’s policies are widely publicized and understood by the enlisted force, and serves as the functional manager for all assigned first sergeants. The 403rd Wing is an Air Force Reserve C-130J unit equipped wing that’s mission is to train, equip and employ airlift forces in global support of the nation’s interests. This includes the only weather reconnaissance mission in the Department of Defense as well as tactical airlift and airdrop, aeromedical evacuation and agile combat support.
Chief Gilmore entered active duty Air Force July 1992. She graduated from the Combat Arms Training and Maintenance Course November 1992 at Lackland Air Force Base, Texas. In 1997 she became a member of Security Forces when the career fields merged. In January 2000, Chief Gilmore was one of the first women to graduate from the Phoenix Raven School. After this training she went on numerous missions that spanned the globe. Chief Gilmore left the active duty Air Force in 2004 and became a Security Forces Individual Mobilization Augmentee at RAF Lakenheath. In January 2009, she transferred to the Air Force Reserve, where she cross-trained into the Aerospace Medical Service as a medical technician and was assigned to the 932d Airlift Wing. She has filled different roles including 4N Functional Manager and additional-duty First Sergeant. Prior to her current position, she was the Command Chief Master Sergeant of the 932d Airlift Wing, Scott AFB, Ill.
