As we reflect on another year coming to an end, let’s not forget those who have sacrificed for us so we have the opportunity to be here to see another year. This is also a time to focus on the future and making things better for all.

It’s been said, you shouldn’t look back into the past but look toward the future. However, if we don’t remember or reflect on our pasts, goals we set for the future may not be as successful. My experience has taught me we learn from our past mistakes and accomplishments and therefore are able to become successful in future endeavors.

I challenge each of you to set new goals professionally and personally, not just “New Year’s resolutions,” but attainable goals. Remember, if life throws you lemons as you push toward attaining your goals you can turn it into lemonade. Writer Charles L. Swindoll may have said it best, “I am convinced that life is 10 percent what happens to me and 90 percent how I react to it.”

Finally, as you attain your goals, remember to pay it forward and help someone else who may be in need. We don’t arrive at places of achievement on our own, but through hard work and the good people surrounding us who give the support needed in both our professional and personal lives. Make sure the people who made a difference in your life know they are appreciated and loved.
