The U.S. Air Force Reserve 53rd Weather Reconnaissance Squadron "Hurricane Hunters" work with the U.S. Naval Academy to "hunt" hurricanes, collecting pertinent data for the National Hurricane Center to use in their forecast models.

The Hurricane Hunters fly through tropical storms that present a threat from the 55 longitude line in the Atlantic to the International Dateline in the Pacific.

The data the Hurricane Hunters collect help ensure accurate warnings are released from a better forecast model to keep people informed of potential dangers heading their way.
