Colonel D. SHAWN MATTINGLY

Colonel D. Shawn Mattingly is Vice Commander of the 403rd Wing, Air Force Reserve Command, Keesler Air Force Base, Miss. The 403rd Wing is the first U.S. Air Force organization to acquire the C-130J Super Hercules and has executed over 90,000 flying hours in this weapon system. It is the largest tenant unit on Keesler AFB, with more than 1,600 reservists and 20 C-130J aircraft. The wing’s mission is to train, equip and employ airlift forces in global support of the nation's interests. This includes tactical air-land and air-drop of personnel, supplies and equipment, aeromedical evacuation and agile combat support. In addition, the wing performs the only aerial weather reconnaissance mission in the Department of Defense.

The Colonel entered the Air Force in November 1996, after graduating from Wake Forest University in 1994, and was commissioned through Officer Training School in May of 1997. Prior to his current position, the he was the Joint Operations Officer in Charge, Joint Transportation Reserve Unit, U.S. Transportation Command, Scott Air Force Base, Ill. He’s served in a variety of positions throughout his career to include Deputy Director Global Operations on the Tanker Airlift Control Center Execution Floor, Tanker Flight Commander 183rd Air Operations Center, an Instructor and Evaluator Pilot, flying both the KC-10 and C-17 aircraft with the 514th Air Mobility Wing, Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, N.J., holding the positions of Chief of Training, Chief of Scheduling and Group Tactics Chief.
